INT. HOUSE - NIGHT
The house is dark. It’s nearing 2:00 am in the morning. We hear a car pull up along with laughter, coughing, and a bit of throwup.
Heeled shoes click up to the door. We hear a fumbling of keys, an unlocking of the front door, and a drunk teenager trying to find her bearings.
MACY
Shit.
MACY flings off her heels and walks across to the kitchen. A single lamp ticks on in the living room. MACY peeks her head into the room.
MOM and DAD sit rigidly on the sofa. Their faces are bleak and angry.
MACY
Oh, crap.
MOM
Where have you been Macy West Dugard?
MACY
Just out - studying.
DAD
Studying?
MACY
Yeah, me and Lace have a big test
(belch)
Tomorrow.
MOM
It’s Lace and I.
MACY
What?
MOM
IT’S LACE AND I NOT ME AND LACE!
MACY
Okay Jesus, sorry
DAD
(mumbling)
Do NOT use the lord's name in vain.
MOM
So you like to get drunk when you study?
MACY
What? No, I’m not drunk -
MOM
I CAN SMELL IT ON YOU.
DAD
And we saw you throw up on the lawn.
MACY
I’ll clean it up, I’m sorry!
DAD
Sit down - NOW.
MACY slumps into the chair opposite them.
MACY
It’s not that big of a deal.
MOM
I don’t know what happened to us to deserve a child like this.
DAD
Did you forget how to pray, Macy? Did you forget about GOD, Macy?
MACY
Ughhhhh-
MOM
You have been a great distributed to your father and I.
MACY
MOM! It’s not that seriou - a what?
MOM
A GREAT DISTRIBUTED!
MACY
What are you talking about?
DAD
Your mother and I tried to raise a good, Christian daughter and instead we end up with this alcoholic distributed.
MACY
Am I missing something here?
MOM
You’re DRUNK!
MACY
Distributed?
DAD
YES.
MACY
Distrubuted.
MOM
Get it through your thick, drunk head little lady! You will be moving out of this house in a second if you can’t get your act together!
MACY
Oh my God.
DAD
DO NOT USE THE LORDS NAME IN VAIN.
MOM
Don’t be a smart-bum you little spawn of satan -
DAD
Honey -
MOM
NO! She is no longer my daughter - the devil must have pushed her out of his clawlike undercarriage because I CERTAINLY don’t remember carrying this thing around for nine months.
MACY starts to tear up.
DAD
Gosh darn hon.
MOM
I said what I said!
MACY folds over and starts to sob.
DAD
Good job.
MOM
SHE’S THE SINNER, not me.
DAD goes over to his daughter and tries to comfort her.
DAD
Listen, we still love you. We just don’t want to see you throw your life away like my brother did. He started with the drinking and then the marijuana and now he vapes in a cubicle. He’s a great distributed to the family and I don’t want the same for you.
MACY
I just feel so suffocated sometimes.
MOM
Well, maybe if you went to church a little more.
MACY
It’s not that. I don’t know. I’m sorry guys.
DAD looks at MOM. MOM rolls her eyes and comes over to comfort MACY.
MOM
It’s okay, baby.
MOM and DAD hug MACY. They have a family moment.
Beat.
MACY looks up.
MACY
Oh my god, did you mean disappointed?
